Paul Watkins, Peddie School's author-in-residence, will read from his latest novel "'The Beast in the Red Forest," the fifth in his series of books set in Stalinist Russia. The event, held in Peddie's Efros Auditorium, is free and open to the public.
Watkins, author of both fiction and non-fiction books, also writes under the pseudonym Sam Eastland.
The main character of his series is Inspector Pekkala, a Finn who once served as the personal investigator for Tsar Nicholas II. Captured during the Revolution, he was sent to a gulag in Siberia, but was later recalled by Stalin himself to continue his work. The two men, once sworn enemies, have formed an uneasy truce as they struggle against the enemies of Russia.
