MCCC Fashion Design Students Present Showcase of Their Work at Trenton Hall May 5

On Friday, May 5, Fashion/Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising students at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will present “Fashion, Arts & More,” a showcase of their work from the 2016-17 academic year. This free event starts at 6 p.m. in the newly opened fourth floor exhibit space at Trenton Hall on MCCC’s James Kerney Campus, 137 North Broad Street in downtown Trenton. A reception for community guests will include light refreshments.

The showcase includes a runway show featuring current MCCC fashion design students, high school fashion design students, program alumni, and volunteer models. An exhibit of fashion garments created by students will be on display, along with student artwork. Window displays by Fashion Merchandising students will greet visitors upon arrival at the building. As part of the event, faculty members will present students with awards for excellence.

According to faculty member Katina Lindsay, “The goal for the fashion showcase is to give students an opportunity to display and share their work with fellow students, faculty and staff, and family and friends. Creating fashion is difficult work, requiring technical skills and critical attention to detail. We are so happy to give these students a platform to display their creations.” In addition to Lindsay, program faculty include Kathryn Pinner and Beth Dubrow.

MCCC’s Fashion/Apparel Design program offers an A.A.S. degree in Visual Arts that prepares students with a strong foundation in art, design, and technical studies, while also focusing on the creative and business aspects of the industry. Graduates are ready for advanced study at four-year colleges by paralleling the first two years of coursework at several area institutions.

The Fashion Merchandising option is an A.A.S. program in Business Management that focuses on careers in fashion/apparel sales, marketing, buying, and merchandising. The curriculum parallels the first two years of education at a majority of undergraduate universities and art colleges, with an emphasis on career training for gainful employment.

Recent fashion graduates have transferred to the Fashion Institute of Technology, LIM College, Moore College of Art and Design, and Montclair State University.
