Police Activity Temporarily Closes TJ Maxx

The East Windsor store shut down for several hours Monday evening.

Emergency responders from East Windsor, nearby towns and Mercer County took up much of the parking lot by a closed on Princeton-Hightstown Road in East Windsor Monday evening. Officials had not confirmed the reason why as of 9:15 p.m.

and fire officials, as well as emergency medical technicians and representatives of the county sheriff’s office, showed up at the scene around 5 p.m. Police cars blocked drivers from approaching the store, and would-be shoppers were turned away without explanation. Nearby stores were not evacuated, and most employees in those businesses said they had not been briefed on the situation.

East and West Windsor police responded with K-9 units, as did the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.  The was also at the scene, along with EMTs from Capital Health and the .

The store was open again by 9 p.m., and store personnel referred questions to a spokesperson who could not immediately be reached for comment.

Fire officials referred all questions to police, who are expected to issue a press release on Tuesday. This story will be updated as more information is made available.
