3 Metuchen Teens Create App To Navigate Mental Health Resources, Win Competition

The winning app will be displayed on the Congressional App Challenge Website and will be featured on digital display in the Capitol.

METUCHEN, NJ - Three students from Metuchen recently created an app to help teens and young adults access and understand mental health resources. Their app, Myndful, has now won the 2022 Congressional App Challenge, Rep Frank Pallone said.

Ashvin Trehan, Siddharth Paul, and Jared Wyetzner from Metuchen High Schoo won the 2022 Congressional App Challenge. The competition involves high school and middle school students in New Jersey’s 6th Congressional District to highlight the value of STEM education and computer science. They are encouraged to show their creativity and various technical skills.

Pallone congratulated the students for their winning app and applauded all the participants for their creative ideas.

“The COVID-19 pandemic showed just how critical mental health support is. This app will help connect students with the assistance they need,” Pallone said.

“I will continue to support investments in STEM education in New Jersey to make sure the United States remains at the forefront of innovation and research. I want to thank the experts who helped assess each app and provide feedback to the students.”

Trehan, Paul and Wyetzner’s winning app will be displayed on the Congressional App Challenge Website and a digital display in the Capitol Building, Pallone’s office said.

Entries to the Congressional App Challenge in NJ-6 were assessed by a panel of local experts on several criteria, including the demonstrated knowledge of coding and programming skills and the quality and implementation of their ideas.
