How Much Snow Did Edison and Metuchen Get?
The area took a direct hit from the nor'easter. National Weather Service spotters recorded 19.3 inches in Metuchen as of Monday afternoon and 17.8 inches just southwest of Edison. Mayor Joshi called it one of the biggest blizzards Edison has seen since 1996, while in Metuchen, Mayor Busch put the borough's total at around 20 inches. Perth Amboy, the highest reading in Middlesex County, topped out at 25 inches.
Metuchen Mayor: Clear Your Sidewalks by 2 p.m.
Mayor Jonathan M. Busch acknowledged the toll the storm has taken but said sidewalk clearing is not optional. Borough officials will begin knocking on doors of properties with uncleared walks at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Busch also urged neighbors to look out for one another. "If you are able, please consider helping an elderly or disabled neighbor," he said. "That is what Metuchen does best."
The mayor cautioned that the snow is particularly heavy and advised residents to lift smaller amounts, take breaks and know their limits, noting that overexertion while shoveling leads to serious health emergencies every year.
Edison: Cars Will Be Towed
Edison Mayor Sam Joshi said DPW crews worked 16-hour shifts through the night, and residents should expect multiple rounds of plowing before roads are fully clear. Joshi warned that cars left on the road will be towed without warning.
Power Outages
In Metuchen, falling trees took down power lines across multiple neighborhoods, leaving approximately 250 homes without electricity, with the hardest-hit area around Rose Street and additional outages on Aldrich Street and along Spring Street. Residents with outages should contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734.
