Council Approves Purchase Of Portable Hockey Rink In Metuchen
The portable outdoor hockey rink and safety nets will be used by the Metuchen Floor Hockey League.

METUCHEN, NJ — Earlier this week, Council approved the purchase of a portable outdoor hockey rink and safety nets for the Metuchen Floor Hockey League.
The portable rink will be located at the Charles Field complex.
The initiative began after a group of Metuchen dads worked together to construct a 90-by-50 –foot floor hockey rink on the baseball court at Myrtle-Charles park, last year. The rink helped kids in the league play outdoors when the pandemic would have otherwise canceled their season, Mayor Jonathan M. Busch said.

Earlier, they played in the gym at Moss School.
“I was blown away by what they did. It was such an extraordinary showing of community,” Busch said during the meeting.

“We won't be using the wood boards made by the sweat and hands of Metuchen dads, but we’re going to do something that’s even safer and a more permanent solution because the league is just extraordinary.”
The Mayor said the borough might have an actual rink one day, but in the meantime, a “semi-permanent solution” has been put in place.
