EDISON, NJ — Edison Township will replace the Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramp at the Senior Center at Yelencsics Park after the Township Council authorized a contract of up to $166,210 at its May 6 meeting.

The ramp, located at the park on Woodbridge Avenue, provides the primary access point to the Senior Center for older residents, visitors, and staff. Township officials said the replacement is needed to improve safety and maintain compliance with federal accessibility standards.

Councilman Richard Brescher thanked the administration for going ahead with replacing the ramp on the property.

“I know it was deteriorating for years now, so it's a good thing we are actually getting it repaired, and we are gonna have this taken care of now,” Brescher told Council.

The contract was awarded to Whirl Construction, Inc., based at 194 Main St. in Port Monmouth, through the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey cooperative purchasing program.

The total cost of the project shall not exceed $166,210, with funds drawn from the township's Improvement to Various Parks capital account. The mayor or his designee is authorized to execute the contract and any related documents under the resolution adopted by the council.

The Senior Center at Yelencsics Park is a hub for Edison's older adult community, offering programs and services to residents across the township. Ensuring safe, accessible entry to the facility is a priority for township officials, particularly as the ramp serves individuals who may have mobility challenges.

No timeline for the start or completion of construction was included in the resolution.
