Metuchen To Extend Outdoor Dining Until End Of Year

The township made the decision to continue with outdoor dining tents due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases across the state.

METUCHEN, NJ — Outdoor dining became a fixture in most towns since the pandemic last year. But with COVID-19 cases surging in New Jersey, Metuchen has decided to extend outdoor dining until the end of the year, Metuchen Mayor Jonathan M Busch announced recently.

Busch said the decision was made after talking with New Street business and property owners. Outdoor tents in Metuchen can accommodate heaters during the cold weather.

“An overwhelming number of residents and visitors have expressed a desire to continue to be able to eat outdoors across the Borough, especially given the state of the pandemic, which is consistent with citizen demands that we have seen in other similar communities in New Jersey and beyond,” Busch said in a Facebook post.

“...With each punch that the pandemic has tried to throw at us, we have punched back in the form of increased adaption and maneuverability which has led to more local success than other municipalities despite outside economic conditions.”

Busch said tents will be temporarily taken down in October for gas company work but they will return as soon as the work is completed.
