Englewood Cliffs Cop Sues Chief, Borough: Report

Lt. Scott Mura claims he was retaliated against for reporting potential misconduct involving dismissed parking tickets.

An Englewood Cliffs police officer is suing the police chief and the borough, claiming he was retaliated against for reporting potential misconduct regarding dismissed parking tickets, The Record reported.

Lt. Scott Mura claims Chief Michael Cioffi engaged in ”retaliatory conduct” ever since Mara told him and Internal Affairs officers that he was investigating the voided summonses, according to the report.

Cioffi said in the report that he “did absolutely nothing wrong,” and that “everything was done the appropriate way.”

Mura claims in the suit that Cioffi illegally voided seven summonses issued in August of 2013 to several of the mayor’s political donors, the report said. He told police in a meeting that he was investigating potential misconduct, according to the report.

Since the meeting, Mura claims Cioffi filed disciplinary charges against him and denied him a promotion to captain, according to the report.
