Englewood Hosts Belated Fireworks Display for Independence Day

Englewood residents put on their red, white and blue Monday night as the town celebrated a postponed fireworks display in honor of Independence Day.

Residents from Englewood and surrounding towns gathered outside of Dwight Morrow High School to spend time with family and friends, eat, listen to live musical performances and watch fireworks, which came a week late due to inclement weather on the event’s original date of July 2.

For Bergen County resident Russ Kip Moore, it was the fireworks and entertainment that brought him to the Englewood event for the second year in a row.

“I come to support the event,” Moore said. “If people don’t come out to these things they don’t have them.”

State Senator and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono attended the city's fireworks show and spoke to potential voters at the event.

Aside from Bergen County being the most populous county in the state, Buono said she attended the fireworks display because “(Englewood) is a great city.”

“I’m no stranger to Bergen County,” Buono said. “It’s good to be back.”

The event, which was sponsored by Englewood Hospital and Englewood Cliffs Cadillac, featured musical performances from young locals, including cast members from Bergen PAC’s production of “42nd Street,” and singers Amera J and Arabelle Luke, to name a few. Both food and novelty vendors also set up shop on the high school’s lawn.

In addition to musical performances, both Buono and Mayor Frank Huttle addressed the crowd before the firework display began.

“It’s so great to be here to celebrate the fourth,” Buono said. “It’s important to remember how important our freedoms are that we take for granted.”
