Englewood Man Charged With First-Degree Attempted Murder

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A city man was charged with attempted murder related to a man being shot in Paterson last month.

Vanden L. Carter, 29, was charged with first-degree attempted murder and various weapons charges after authorities arrested him in Paterson Wednesday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announced in a joint news release Thursday.

Paterson Police officers responded to a report of shots fired near North Straight Street in Paterson at about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 15, authorities said.

Police found a 44-year-old man who had a non-fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment, authorities said.

Authorities investigated and identified Carter as the shooter, authorities said.

Carter faces 10 to 20 years in New Jersey on the attempted murder charge alone.

The state will file a motion in Superior Court for pretrial detention in the case.
