Englewood Men, Juveniles Arrested During Street Robbery Patrol
Police made the arrests while patrolling the streets after a series of recent street robberies.
ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Police arrested several people while patrolling near the Sheffield apartment complex after they saw two of them take a 16-year-old's cell phone.
Officers Alaric Tucker and Julio Alvarado saw five suspicious men walking through the complex on Sterling Boulevard at about 11:40 p.m. Monday, said Detective Capt. Timothy Torell.
The police followed the group on foot and saw two of them, Rudell Akridge, 18, and a 16-year-old boy, separate from the others and robbed a 16-year-old boy of his cell phone, Torell said.

Akridge, of Englewood, was charged with robbery and employing a juvenile in a crime, the captain said. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail. The juvenile was charged with robbery and remanded to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center.
Officers found the other three people in the group and questioned them, Torell said.

While speaking with them, a knife fell from Malik Rector's clothes, Torell said.
Rector, 19, of Englewood, was charged with possession of an illegal weapon and hindering apprehension. He lied about his identity to avoid being arrested on an unrelated outstanding contempt warrant, Torell said.
The remaining juveniles were released to their guardians and not charged, said Torell.
Police will continue to patrol the area.
