Englewood Woman Gets Jail Time For Stealing $128K Of Dead Mom's Social Security Benfits
Linda Miller's mom died in 2006, but she continued to collect her Social Security benefits until 2014.

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — A Englewood woman was sentenced to jail Friday for fraudulently collecting more than $128,000 of her dead mother's Social Security benefits.
Linda Miller, 59, was sentenced to six months in Bergen County Jail and five years of probation by Bergen County Superior Court Judge Christopher R. Kazlau, said Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino. She must also repay the $128,131 she collected for more than eights years. She has already served the required jail time.
Miller pleaded guilty Dec. 23 to second-degree theft by deception following a 2015 indictment, Porrino said.

Miller's mother died May 4, 2006, but she fraudulently continued to collect her Society Security benefits until July 2014, the attorney general said. The benefits were directly deposited into a bank account in Miller's name.
“By aggressively prosecuting fraudsters like Miller, we send a strong message that these crimes won’t be tolerated,” said director Elie Honig of the Division of Criminal Justice. “We urge anyone with information about this type of fraud to contact us or the Social Security Administration.”
