Organ Concert at First Presbyterian Church Mar 30

First Presbyterian Church of Englewood is presenting a benefit organ concert performed by music director Dr. David Macfarlane on Sunday, March 30 at 3pm.

The concert will include one of the most difficult and demanding organ piece ever composed, "Pageant" by Leo Sowerby, which uses challenging pedal work, as well as the world's most recognizable organ piece, "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" by Bach.

The concert also includes the Symphony Gothique by French romantic composer Charles Widor, a 4-movement symphony for organ which incorporates traditional chant themes for the day of Easter. Dr. Macfarlane said. "The wide range of this piece is particularly well suited to our newly renovated organ."

Dr. Macfarlane has been music director and organist at the First Presbyterian Church for the past 12 years. A critically acclaimed organ recitalist, he has performed in such varied places as St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and Giants’ Stadium for Pope John Paul II’s Mass. He is also on the faculty of Bergen Community College, both teaching and as director of the BCC Chorus.
