Air Rifle, Marijuana Found During Fair Lawn Traffic Stop: Police

An iPhone and other property was taken from a vehicle Saturday, police said.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Two New York men were arrested after police found an air rifle and marijuana were found in a vehicle during a traffic stop Wednesday, police said.

Officer Nicholas Snyder stopped a vehicle on Berdan Avenue and arrested the operator, Kyle Johnson, 19, of Port Jervis, New York and the passenger, Ryan Walsh, 21, of Chester, New York, after marijuana and an air rifle were found in the vehicle, police said.

Johnson was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Walsh was released after being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, police said.

Officer Tiller Uriarte stopped a bicyclist riding on 3rd Street at Legion Place and arrested Erik Anderson, age 38 of Ridgewood, after finding prescription drugs not belonging to him and burglary tools in a backpack he was carrying, police said. Arrest warrants were located out of Bergen County (no bail) & Hasbrouck Heights ($853); he was charged with possession of prescription legend drugs and possession of burglary tools, then sent to Bergen County Jail, police said.

July 21

Fair Lawn Police responded to 4th Street on a report of bicycle thefts from a residence in the area. Officer Michael Van Ness located one man on a bicycle on Hopper Avenue near 3rd Street and arrested Israel Rodriguez, age 32 of Paterson, police said, after the bicycle was determined to have been taken from a residence on Bellair Avenue. Rodriguez was released after being charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Two other bicycles were located on 5th Street near Hopper Avenue but the suspects were not located.

July 24

Fraud: Fair Lawn Police took a report from a resident who stated that her credit card had been used fraudulently at local businesses, police said. Paul Donohue took over the investigation and was able to identify and arrest Jessica Covino, age 27 of Rochelle Park, after she was identified through video evidence, police said; she was released after being charged with fraudulent use of a credit card & identity theft.

July 25

Officer Geovanny Buitron initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 208 southbound at Plaza Road and arrested the operator, Carlos Daniels, age 37 of Port Chester, New York after marijuana was located inside the vehicle with assistance from a Bergen County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, police said. He was released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to maintain a single lane, police said.

July 26

Officer Geovanny Buitron approached two suspicious males walking on Fair Lawn Avenue at 20th Street and arrested Luis Rosario, age 48 of Paterson, after evidence of drug use was located in a bag he was carrying, police said. Additional drugs were located on his person during a search at police headquarters, he was released after being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic needles, police said.

July 27

  • Officer Robert Belbol and Sgt. Anthony Ferreira responded to ShopRite on River Road and arrested Philip Mattera, 62, of Hackensack, after he was detained by store loss prevention with $323.51 in unpaid items in a basket, police said. He was charged with shoplifting.
  • Officer Nicholas Snyder initiated a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at 34th Street and arrested the operator, Melvyn Acosta-Lopez, age 32 of Paterson, after an arrest warrant was located out of Teaneck for $89, police said. He was charged with failure to maintain vehicle lamps and operating with a suspended license, then released after posting bail.

July 28

  • Detective Sgt. Joseph Mecionis initiated a motor vehicle stop on River Road at Fair Lawn Avenue and arrested the operator, George Georgy, 49, of East Brunswick, after evidence of drug use was located after it was tossed from the vehicle, police said. He was released after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and improper passing, police said.
  • Fair Lawn Police responded to Chase Bank on Fair Lawn Avenue on a report of an attempt to fraudulently withdraw money and arrested Clifton Gregory, 66, of West New York after he was located in a nearby parking lot with a fraudulent Ohio driver’s license and credit card in the name of the account holder, police said. Arrest warrants were located out of Delaware County, PA (no bail) & Lodi ($1,500). He was charged with attempted theft by deception, two counts of false government documents and fraudulent use of a credit card, then sent to Bergen County Jail, police said.

July 29

Fair Lawn Police responded to the area of 1st Street at Morlot Avenue after a resident on 1st Street reported her vehicle being burglarized, police said. Officer Christopher Siano located Eligha Young, 35, of Paterson near Morlot Avenue Bridge and arrested him after he was positively identified by the victim, police said. An iPhone, sunglasses and change was recovered; he was released after being charged with burglary, police said.
