ST JOSEPH REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

“MISS SAIGON”

The Boys of St Joseph Regional HS Montvale, NJ – one mile from the Rockland border) invite the girls of your school to be part our award winning and nationally recognized theater program and this year’s school musical – MISS SAIGON.

The original productions of MISS SAIGON ran for over 4,000 performances in London and then ran for over 4,000 performances on Broadway, making it one of the longest running Broadway Musicals in musical theater history. Written by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alan Boublil, two guys who wrote another pretty successful show called LES MISERABLES, is based on Puccini’s opera MADAME BUTTERFLY and tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The setting of the plot is located in the 1970’s Saigon during the Vietnam War. MISS SAIGON has been performed by twenty seven companies in twenty five countries and it has been translated into twelve different languages. This year will be the 25th Anniversary of the Opening of Miss Saigon.

We are so proud that the first ever non-professional production of MISS SAIGON was in 2006 at St Joseph Regional HS where we were given the opportunity to pilot this show to see if it could work within a high school theater program. A number of lyrics used in the present version of MISS SAIGON (School Edition) were written by the cast of the St Joe’s 2006 production. The success of our production led MTI to fully license MISS SAIGON so non-professional theater companies could produce this show.

THIS SHOW WILL USE COLOR-BLIND CASTING – Non Traditional Casting (Roles will be cast without considering the actors’ ethnicity)

WHEN: Oct 20 at 7:00pm, Oct 21 at 7:00 PM, & Oct. 22 at 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM Additional Info will be sent out in the weeks ahead & will posted at www.sjrtheater.com & SJR Performing Arts page on Facebook. Those interested in auditioning for the Show and/or the SJR Chorus need to attend only ONE audition session.

WHERE: St. Joseph Regional High School Theater. 40 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Montvale, NJ

You should be prepared to sing 16 to 32 bars of song in the style of the show (Contemporary Broadway Show – Les Mis, Jekyll & Hyde, Scarlet Pimpernel, Sweeney Todd, etc. No pop or rock songs ). An accompanist will be provided so you must bring sheet music. In addition, you should be prepared to dance so please dress accordingly.

CALL BACKS: will be held the following week. Details will be given at auditions.

REHEARSALS: will be one or two nights a week and on Sunday afternoons starting in mid-November. A schedule will be given out

PERFORMANCES: THE 12 PERFORMANCES will begin Jan 28 and run through Feb 7.
