Fire Rips Through Fair Lawn Home Saturday [video]

The fire tore through the back of the house and up to the attic, causing the roof to partially collapse, police said.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Firefighters battled a fast-moving fire at an Alexandra Avenue home Saturday morning that reportedly started in the back of the house.

Authorities responded to the home shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, police said, and found heavy smoke coming from the back of the house, which was engulfed in flames, police said.

The fire soon spread to the attic, NorthJersey.com reported, which caused the roof to partially collapse.

The fire could be seen bursting through the roof and black smoke pouring out of the home.


A father and his two adult children escaped the blaze, the report said.

Saddle Brook, Fair Lawn and Glen Rock fire departments responded to and extinguished the blaze. Hawthorne and Elmwood Park firefighters also assisted with the fire, according to the report.

Fair Lawn police could not be reached for comment.

Authorities were investigating what caused the fire.
