Man, 45, Woman, 20, Gave Fake Names To Police During Drug Investigation: Blotter

Drugs were found in the vehicle, police said.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — A man and woman wanted in Fair Lawn gave fake names to police during a traffic stop Saturday night.

Driver Robert Guardagno, 45, and Nicole Carlaftes, 20, both of Liberty, New York, gave police fake names when asked during a traffic stop on Maple Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Brian Metzler. Both had warrants out for their arrest in Fair Lawn, Metzler said.

Drugs were handed over to Officer Brian Rypkema during the traffic stop and both Guardagno and Carlaftes were charged with possession of hypodermic needle, giving false information to a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, Metzler said. Both were sent to the Bergen County Jail.

Guardagno was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to obey a traffic signal and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, police said.

In related news, William Magee, 38, of Trenton, was charged with shoplifting after police said nearly $79 of unpaid merchandise from CVS was found near the store Friday afternoon.

Matthew Balkin, 24, of Fair Lawn, was arrested following a traffic stop Sunday night after police discovered he had arrest warrants out on him from Rochelle Park and Union Township for $1,000 and $350, respectively, police said. He was handed over to Rochelle Park Police.
