Radburn Plaza In Fair Lawn Evacuated Due To 'Suspicious' Bag: Police

Bergen County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad took an x-ray of the bag and the plaza was opened back up 80 minutes later, Fair Lawn police said

The Radburn Plaza in Fair Lawn was evacuated for about 80 minutes Monday morning after a suspicious package was reported in front of a business there, Fair Lawn police said.

A customer at Plaza Nails reported seeing a “suspicious package” in front of the Instandbull Cafe and Grill at 10:09 a.m., Sgt. Brian Metzler said. The plaza is located at at 14-25 Plaza Road.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene and x-rayed the green zippered bag, which was found to have sand in it, Metzler said.

The bag was placed outside of the cafe a few days ago to hold up a sign that kept blowing over because of the wind, police said.

“They just forget to take the bag inside,” Metzler said.

Plaza Road between Fair Lawn and Howard avenues and High Street between Plaza and Abbot roads were closed while the investigation occurred, police said.

Authorities cleared from the scene and the evacuation was lifted at about 11:30 a.m., Metzler said.
