What You Need to Know: Street Salting and Snow Removal Procedures
Familiarize yourself with the Department of Public Works' winter weather procedures

With a white weekend predicted, is primed and ready to plow.
Once the snow begins falling, DPW's Road Division will dispatch salt trucks to start salting county roads* and the designated emergency snow routes**.
After these roads are made safe and passable, the secondary roads, if deemed necessary, will be salted.

Roads will be plowed in the same order they're salted, beginning with county roads and followed by designated emergency snow routes, secondary roads and finally, borough parking lots.
Each snow plow is assigned a section to plow and will remain in that section until all roadways have been sufficiently cleared, which means the snow plow may make multiple passes on a single street.

Borough snow removal vehicles will plow each street, curb to curb, during each snowfall.
On occasion, due to the lack of areas between the sidewalk and curb, sidewalks and driveway aprons may become covered with snow. In such instances, the borough's snow removal vehicles will not remove snow from any sidewalk or driveway apron, and the DPW regrets any inconvenience this may cause residents.
Two important borough ordinances to keep in mind and abide by because they will be stricly enforced:
Ordinance 208-2 -- Depositing snow and ice on streets and sidewalks is prohibited.
No person, firm or corporation, owner, tenant or occupant of any premises abutting on any street shall throw, place or deposit any snow or ice into or upon any street in the Borough of Fair Lawn.
Ordinance 232-6 -- Parking prohibited for snow removal, snow plowing on certain streets.
No person shall park a vehicle at any time upon any of the Emergency Snow Emergency Routes**, until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.
If you have any questions about salting or snow removal procedures, please call the Department of Public Works at 201-794-5304 or 201-794-5326.
