Boy Troop 200 replaces flags on Clinton Twp overpasses
Lebanon Scouts help Knights of Columbus replace worn and tattered American flags
New American flags are now flying from overpasses in Clinton Township thanks to the efforts of the Knights of Columbus and BSA Troop 200. The flags can be spotted while driving along Interstate 78.
Troop 200 Scouts assisted the Knights from Immaculate Conception Council 6245 in replacing the worn American flags over the local Clinton Township overpasses. The scouts will also properly retire the worn flags that were collected and replaced.
"The flag initiative was started by a local scout troop after September 11, 2001, and the Knights and local scouts have been hanging and replacing the flags ever since." said Steve Martorana, a member of the Knights Council 6245 and a Troop 200 Assistant Scoutmaster.

Martorana said the flags also show appreciation for veterans and hope they bring a smile to those passing through the area.
"Whether it's a stream clean-up, a food collection or helping veterans or the elderly; we're always looking for ways to make a positive impact," explained Owen Maslanka, Troop 200 Senior Patrol Leader. "It is great that we were able to help put up new flags and retire the worn and tattered ones."

While replacing the flags a number of cars and trucks honked their appreciation as they drove by. Clinton Township police officer Shane Carle also stopped to monitor the progress and make sure that the volunteers were safe.
"Each time we drive by the flags I'll be able to say 'I helped do that' and it makes me feel really good," said Troop 200 scout Gavin Martorana.
Troop 200 is a high-adventure, boy-led troop dating back to 1955. The scouts meet on Monday evenings during the school year at Lebanon Reformed Church located in Lebanon Borough, NJ.
