EXCITE Camp to Run July 13-17

Middle and High School Students Can Sample Careers at Hunterdon County Polytech this Summer

Flemington, N.J. – Students entering sixth through 10th grades are invited to spend a week this summer testing out a career at Hunterdon County Polytech Career & Technical School. The school’s 2020 EXCITE Camp offers experiences in cosmetology, baking and culinary arts, auto body, early childhood education, graphic design and more at the school’s Bartles and Central campuses, July 13-17, with both half-day and full-day options.

The one-week format not only breaks the cycle of “I’m bored,” or “there’s nothing to do,” but also gives students opportunities to explore their interests and gain insights into potential career areas. EXCITE also can help students identify courses of study and electives they need, or want, to take in high school.

EXCITE runs July 13-17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost for five half-day sessions is $150; the fee for five full-day sessions is $300. To sign up a camper, complete the registration form online at polytech.hcvsd.org by June 7. Then, write a check payable to Hunterdon County Polytech, include the camper’s name on the memo line and mail it to the attention of Nicole Craven at Hunterdon County Polytech, 8 Bartles Corner Road, Suite 201, Flemington, NJ 08822.

Tanya Nalesnik, Hunterdon County Vocational School District’s director of grants management, admissions and security, said EXCITE “offers a fun summer camp experience with eye-opening learning opportunities to help students begin thinking about and planning for future success early on.”

Because EXCITE operates on two of Polytech’s campuses, students can access on-site equipment and facilities designed to accommodate multiple participants, giving everyone a hands-on experience. The instructors have a CTE background and are used to working with youth in educational settings. Students will leave EXCITE with a better understanding of the career exploration and training programs available at Polytech for high school juniors and seniors.
