Receives Third Consecutive Safety Award

The County of Hunterdon, Division of Buildings and Maintenance, has again received statewide recognition earning the 91st Annual Governor’s Occupational Safety & Health “Safety Achievement Award,” for maintaining a safe and healthful work place for three consecutive years.

Freeholder Board Director Suzanne Lagay stated that this achievement demonstrates the commitment of the Division to health and safety in doing consistently fine work for the county and fulfilling their obligations over a three-year time frame. Recognizing their efforts is important to the Freeholder Board and we applaud the Division for all they do every day for the county.

The Buildings and Maintenance Division first achieved the “Citation of Merit” and the “Award of Merit” at the 89th and 90th Annual Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Awards. Now, at the 91st Annual Governor’s Award, they achieved the Safety Achievement Award for maintaining a safe and healthful workplace for the past three years.

Since 1927, the Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program has played an important role in promoting safer and healthier workplaces in New Jersey. The program, sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the New Jersey State Industrial Safety Committee, is open to places of employment, both public and private.

Justin Tibbetts, Division of Buildings and Maintenance Division Head, said, “My team often goes unnoticed, working hard behind the scenes supporting the needs of the organization. By providing service in all phases of the building construction trades, to keep the county running smoothly and making sure we have a safe work environment for the employees and visitors. Thank you to my team – you are the ones that make it all happen.”

The Buildings and Maintenance Division is responsible for 53 county buildings, totaling over 572,793 square feet, and all county park properties, totaling over 9,000 acres. The Buildings and Maintenance Division has multiple employees on the Risk Management team to help with limiting all safety risks throughout the county.
