New Jersey Clean Communities Supported in Hunterdon

Hunterdon County Health Department Provides Litter and River Cleanup Efforts

Hunterdon County is slated to receive an $86,929 grant for 2019 from the New Jersey Clean Communities Coalition, which is dedicated to litter and river cleanup projects, Freeholder Sue Soloway, the Board’s liaison for the Department of Health, reported at the June 4th Freeholder meeting.

Freeholder Soloway stated, “These cleanup projects, overseen by the County’s Division of Solid Waste in the Department of Health, are designed to keep Hunterdon County litter-free and improve the quality of life in our communities.”

The Clean Communities Grant funds support the following County programs:

  • Municipal Cleanup programs throughout Hunterdon County. Grant funds provide supplies such as grabbers, vest, gloves, garbage bags and sign boards for volunteer cleanup efforts.
  • Donation of cleanup materials and funds to the non-profit Raritan Headwaters Association and the Musconetcong Watershed Association to support river cleanup activities.
  • Mini Grant projects for community groups dedicated to conducting litter cleanups.
  • Litter abatement School Poster Contest for the 2019-20 school year.
  • Annual Delaware River cleanup (September 2019).
  • Education programs for schools focused on Litter Abatement, Recycling, and Mosquito and Vector Control.

“The County is blessed to have many volunteer groups and individual volunteers who are dedicated to ensuring litter does not spoil the natural beauty of our area. The Freeholder Board thanks all the volunteers for their efforts.

We congratulate our Department of Health and Division of Solid Waste for securing these grant funds,” Freeholder Soloway concluded.
