From the Borough of Flemington: On 5/30/19, Animal Control responded to a residence on E. Main Street near the intersection of New Jersey Ave. The homeowner called to report a sick groundhog in her yard. The groundhog was captured, humanely euthanized, and tested positive for rabies.
Signs of a sick or rabid animal: They are agitated, bite or snap at imaginary and real objects and drool excessively. They appear tame and seem to have no fear of humans. Appearing drunk, excessively wobbly, circling, partially paralyzed, acting disorientated or mutilating itself. These signs can also be indicative of other diseases like distemper or lead poisoning.
