$1M In Cocaine Found In Car's Secret Compartment: Prosecutor

FORT LEE, NJ - Police seized an estimated $1 million worth of cocaine found in a hidden car compartment after they pulled a vehicle over on Route 4 Wednesday, authorities said.

Oscar Junior Mercedes Rodriguez, of New York City, was charged with possession with intent to distribute as a result of the investigation, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said in a statement.

Mercedes Rodriguez, 35, was pulled over Wednesday while driving on Route 4 East, the prosecutor said.

While searching his vehicle, authorities found 10 kilograms of cocaine worth approximately $1 million in an electronically-controlled compartment inside the vehicle, Grewal said.

Mercedes Rodriguez was, charged, arrested, and taken to the Bergen County Jail. His bail was set at $125,000 with no 10 percent option.

Authorities did not say why they stopped the vehicle.
