UPDATE: N.Y. Man Charged With Robbing Fort Lee Bank

Isaac Nesbit was charged with robbing the Bank of New Jersey branch Friday, just a few days after another robbery was committed in town.

FORT LEE, N.J. — A New York man was charged with robbing a Bank of New Jersey branch in Fort Lee Friday morning — only a few days after another man robbed $50,000 from another borough bank.

Police received a report shortly before noon that a man passed a threatening note to a teller at the bank at 458 West St., Sgt. Sean Peppard said in a press release.

Bank employees gave a description of the man to police, which was broadcast to all Fort Lee police officers.

Detective Brian Cullen saw a man matching the man's description walking on Center Avenue near the George Washington Bridge, Peppard said.

Cullen and Officer Michael Biaoblocki told the man, Isaac Nesbit, 29, of New York City, who ran across 14 lanes of highway traffic, the sergeant said.

Officer Dillon Turner saw Cullen and Nesbit running across the highway and stopped him at the New York City-bound bus stop of the George Washington Bridge, Peppard said.

Police found the money Nesbit reportedly stole from the bank when they took him into custody, police said. Port Authority police officers and other police officers also responded to the scene.

Police temporarily closed Fletcher Avenue and police, personnel from the FBI, and members of the Bergen County Sheriff's Department's Crime Scene Unit responded to the bank and assisted with the investigation, Peppard said.

Nesbit was charged with robbery, making terroristic threats and obstruction of administration of the law. Police did not say how much money Nesbit took from the bank. He was transferred to the Bergen County Jail, police said.

It was the second bank robbery to occur in Fort Lee at a Bank of New Jersey branch this month. The bank has two branches and its corporate headquarters in Fort Lee. It is unknown if both robberies occurred at the same branch.

Capt. Patrick Kissane could not be reached for comment.

Andrew Dominguez, 38, of Bronx, New York was charged with robbing the Bank of New Jersey Jan. 13.

Dominguez allegedly entered the bank, approached one of the tellers, and jumped onto the counter, threatening to kill a teller if she did not give him the money, authorities said. He allegedly made off with $50,000, but was later arrested in New York City.
