Classical Solo Piano, Dr. Fan Yang

Pianist,  Dr. Fan Yang will be playing

24 Chopin preludes and close the concert with an virtuosic Tchaikovsky-Feinberg

scherzo. Chopin preludes are probably one of the most poetic works in piano

literature and it is only fitting to share them after a long, cold winter!

Dr. Fan Yang has been described as a "true artist of enormous

intensity and profundity." and " to everything, she brings rare

imagination, poetry, intelligence, and integrity--all projected with a

ravishing pianism."

Dr. Yang entered the Shanghai Conservatory at age ten. In the same

year, she won the first prize of Shanghai Youth Piano Competition and received

Best Performance Prize. Shortly after, she was invited to make recordings of

Chinese contemporary composers and also Brahms Transcriptions with the Shanghai

Conservatory Orchestra. Her performance activities also include a concert tour

in Japan with the Chinese Youth Performance Ensemble and a concerto

appearance with The Shanghai Radio Symphony at the Shanghai Concert Hall.

In 1997, Dr. Yang was awarded full scholarship to study with Prof.

Sedmara Rutstein at Oberlin Conservatory. She garnered the school's top awards

in piano performance: The Rudolf Serkin Prize, the John Elvin Prize, the

Faustina Hurlbutt Prize, and the Pi Kappa Lambda Prize. In 2001, Dr. Yang

entered The Manhattan School of Music as a full scholarship student of Dr.

Arkady Aronov.  During her study in New York, her excellence in music was

recognized in the reception of honors and awards such as the Roy M. Rubinstein

Prize and the David G. Whitecomb Foundation Award: she was also appointed as a teaching

assistant to Dr. Aronov at the Manhattan School of Music.

Dr. Yang was also frequently invited to participate at the prestigious

music festivals such as the Meranofest in Italy and Music Academy of the West

in Santa Barbara. Her concert engagements have taken her around the world

including Japan, China and Italy. She has been featured in concerto

performances with the Brooklyn Symphony Orcehstra, Shanghai Radio Symphony,

Oberlin Symphony Orchestra, and Huainan Symphony Orchestra.

In addition

to her distinction as a performer, Dr. Yang also demonstrated excellence in

teaching.  Her doctoral thesis," Czerny's Opus 740 and Its Related

Techniques" focuses on the development of both mental and physical aspects

of the piano technique. She was also invited to give annual

recitals, lectures and master classes at the Steinway Society of Bay Area

in San Jose, Califonia.
