Cops: Ethiopian Man Dies After He Climbs GWB Tower And Jumps Into The Hudson River
The man was speaking to a Port Authority Police officer when he jumped, authorities said.

An Ethiopian man died Wednesday afternoon after he climbed the New Jersey tower of the George Washington Bridge and jumped into the Hudson River, authorities said.
Port Authority Police spokesperson Joe Pentangelo said the man was in his early 30s and from Ethiopia.
The New Jersey State Police recovered the man from the water and took him to Ross Dock in Fort Lee where an ambulance brought him to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Pentangelo said the man was speaking with Capt. Ron Shindel when he jumped off the bridge at 1:16 p.m..
The man was originally seen on the north walkway near the middle of the bridge walking west, authorities said.

An unattended white Toyota was found on the westbound side of the upper level of the bridge, Pentangelo said.
Authorities did not release the man’s identity, pending notification of his family.
