December 18, 2012, Paramus, NJ: The Rug Importer – a 10,000 square foot store located at 469 Route 17 South above Karl’s Appliances - is closing its doors on Thursday, January 17 after twelve years in business in Paramus.  Its owners, Tariq Qari and Syed Hussaini, cite decreased revenue brought on by the housing slump, a challenging economy and the growth of Internet sales in an over-saturated marketplace.  Most recently, the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey has been a factor – however, Qari and Hussaini have pledged to donate a portion of the sales from their store closing event to the Sandy NJ Relief Fund spearheaded by First Lady Mary Pat Christie.

Known for its huge inventory of classic Oriental high-end and fashion-forward area rugs from Nepal, Tibet, China, Pakistan, the Middle East , Europe and Africa, The Rug Importer plans to restructure with new branding and a versatile mix of both area rugs and broadloom carpeting.  “Since we started our business thirty years ago, our mission has been to provide unique rugs of lasting value and artistry,” cites Hussaini. “ Our selections have ranged from the very finest traditional silk and wool hand-knotted designs to more transitional and contemporary machine-made styles for every interior.”

Now through Saturday, January 19th , the retailer is offering 70% off on every popular style including Tabriz, Jaipur, Agra, Peshawar, Tibetan and many more at a fraction of their market value . For example, one-of-a-kind carpets originally  priced at $25,000 are now $6250; $12,000  now $3,000;  $6,000 now $1500. An ASID NJ Industry Partner, the store welcomes professional interior designers and will provide further discounts on multiple purchases.
