Tom Meyers, Executive Director of the Fort Lee Film Commission, to speak about “When Fort Lee Was Hollywood” at meeting of Palisades Rotary Club
Tom Meyers, founder and Executive Director of the Fort Lee Film Commission, will speak about the history of the film industry in Fort Lee at the dinner meeting of The Rotary Club of The Palisades on March 14 starting at 7 pm. This is the inauguration of regularly scheduled Palisades Rotary Club dinner meetings to be held in Edgewater twice monthly at the Mavi Meze Grill on River Road.
Tom Meyers will share his extensive knowledge about this fascinating topic and will show us a short documentary film titled “When Fort Lee Was Hollywood”. The talk will start after dinner, at about 7:30.
Tom is founder and Executive Director of the Fort Lee Film Commission which was established in 2001. The Film Commission is a division of the Fort Lee Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs. Tom is a fourth generation Fort Lee resident whose family has links to the days when Fort Lee was the first American film town. Tom's grandmother was an extra in movies as a young girl and alter went on to work in the labs of Éclair Studio on Linwood Avenue in Fort Lee. Her and her brothers and sisters made a career in the film laboratories and storage facilities in Fort Lee as did Tom's mother and uncles. Tom worked for NBC News archives in the historic Brulatour Film Building in Fort Lee, once part of the Universal Studio lot. Tom spent close to 20 years working for both NBC News Archives and ABC News Archives prior to his employment with the Borough of Fort Lee.

The Rotary Club of the Palisades has recently changed its meeting schedule to include evening as well as breakfast meetings. We now meet on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month from 7:30 – 8:30 am for breakfast at the Gotham City Diner, 550 Bergen Boulevard, Ridgefield, NJ 07657, and also meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 7:00 pm for dinner meetings at Mavi Meze Grill, 725 River Rd, Edgewater, NJ 07020, to hear speakers on various topics of interest The club welcomes visitors who would like to attend any of our meetings.
