Fort Lee 6th-Grader Hosting Food Drive This Week

Ella Erlich's Dare2Care food drive will be at the D.A.R.E. Games Thursday Friday. Donations will be given to the Center for Food Action.

FORT LEE, NJ — A borough sixth-grader is hosting a food drive to help others.

Ella Ehrlich, a student at School No. 2, started the Dare2Care food drive with the help of the Fort Lee Police Department.

The drive is being held at the department's D.A.R.E. Games Thursday and Friday. Donated goods will be given to the Center for Food Action in Englewood. Items can be dropped off at the Fort Lee High School Cafeteria.

"I want to give back to my community," Ehrlich said, "and I thought by starting Dare2Care, it would be a great way to get students and families of Fort Lee involved with playing a key role in the fight to end hunger."

Non-perishable and canned foods are needed. The most needed items are:

  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned meat, tuna and beans
  • Hearty canned soups
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Low-sugar cereal
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Canned fruits and vegetables

Supermarket gift cards are also needed. They will be used to purchase foods that are not donated or will given to people with special dietary needs.
