Fort Lee's Annual 'Retreat To Victory' Honored With Historic Preservation Award
Two-day long event recreates General George Washington's 1776 retreat of 3,000 troops.

FORT LEE, N.J. – The borough’s annual “Retreat To Victory” program was honored with a Historic Preservation Award from the Bergen County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs.
The two-day living history program recreates General George Washington’s retreat with 3,000 soldiers through the area on Nov. 20, 1776. The event features hundreds of re-enactors.
The event draws hundreds of attendees each year, especially students and children as it provide them a way of learning about and preserving New Jersey’s place in the Revolutionary War.

Since 1982, more than 280 Historic Preservation Awards have been presented to residents, organizations, and business for their efforts to preserve and restore Bergen County’s historic houses, schools, places of worship, and other sites.
The awards will be given out at a ceremony May 5.
