Inmate Seriously Injured In Bergen County Jail Assault
Kyrie Charon Baum was charged with aggravated assault. He was being held in jail on a robbery charge out of Fort Lee, authorities said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — An inmate at the Bergen County Jail has been charged with aggravated assault after he attacked a fellow inmate, authorities said.
Gmal McIntosh was seriously injured when another inmate, Kyrie Charon Baum, briefly assaulted Feb. 21 in the jail's general population facility, Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino said in a news release.
The assault lasted less than 10 seconds, but McIntosh still suffered serious injuries, Saudino said.

McIntosh was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit was notified of the incident.
Baum was being held at the jail on robbery and possession of a handgun charges out of Fort Lee, Saudino said. He was charged with aggravated assault and was indicted by a grand jury.

"Although the Bergen County Jail has an extremely low violence rate, I extend my thoughts to the family of Mr. McIntosh during this difficult time," Saudino said.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
