Man In GWB Crash Admits Smoking Weed: Police

Jorge Luiggi, 35, was sitting shirtless and shoeless on the bridge following early morning crash Thursday, authorities said.

A New York admitted to smoking weed after he crashed his on the George Washington Bridge early Thursday morning, Port Authority Police said.

Police responded to the crash on the bridge’s lower level heading into New York City at about 1 a.m., said police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo. Police found Jorge Luiggi, 35, sitting on the road with no shirt or shoes on. He was breathing but unresponsive, authorities said.

Police said they smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from Luiggi and the 2013 Toyota he was driving. A bag of marijuana was found in the center console, Pentangelo said.

Luiggi was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center for evaluation. While there, he became alert and volunteered the fact that he had “smoked weed,” police said.

Luiggi, of Yonkers, has been charged with possession of marijuana and driving while intoxicated.

The 52-year-old woman driver of the 2011 Ford sedan Luiggi hit was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with non-life threatening injures.
