Men Found With Loaded Handgun At GWB: Police

A 9mm Smith and Wesson was found in the vehicle that two men were in that jumped a toll, police said.

FORT LEE, N.J. — Two George Washington Bridge toll jumpers were arrested after a loaded handgun was found inside their vehicle early Tuesday morning, Port Authority Police said.

Police were patrolling the bridge at about 6 a.m. when they saw a 2016 Dodge charger with no license plates go through an EZPass toll lane without paying, said Joe Pentangelo, a Port Authority Police spokesman.

Police stopped the car and found a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun inside it during a search, Pentangelo said.

The two men in the car were arrested. The driver, Mario L. Denmark, 36, of Charleston, South Carolina, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon, having false or ficitious license plates, driving while intoxicated, theft, and several traffic violations, Pentangelo said.

The passenger, Dylan J. Robicheau Sprague, 23, of Winterport, Maine, was charged with possession of a weapon.

Bail for Denmark and Sprague was set at $25,000 each, with no 10 percent option, authorities said. They were transferred to the Bergen County Jail.

According to court records, Sprague was charged with possession of cocaine in Charleston Oct. 22.
