In other “good news” out of the middle school this week, Columbia University’s Scholastic Press Association reviewed Intermedia, the art and literary magazine produced each year at Lewis F. Cole, with impressive results.
Columbia graded more than 1,400 submissions representing all 50 states, and Fort Lee’s publication was selected as one of the best in the country, receiving 981 points out of a possible 1,000, Giacomelli said.

In addition to garnering a Gold Medalist Award, the magazine received All Columbian Honors for organization, content and design.
The Intermedia advisers will be recognized with a Crown Award—the highest honor offered by the Scholastic Press Association—in the spring, when only four middle school publications in the country will receive the award.
“Congratulations to the advisers, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Spahn, and all the eighth- and ninth-graders who participated in last year’s issue,” Giacomelli said.
