NJ Transit To Speed Up Boarding At GWB Bus Station
Cash will no longer be accepted on buses. Bus departure gate assignments have been reshuffled.

FORT LEE, NJ — Customers can expect faster service NJ Transit's George Washington Bridge bus station when it reopens Tuesday after a $180-million renovation project is completed.
Cash will no longer be accepted on buses departing the station. Customers will be asked to purchase tickets ahead of time or use NJ Transit's MyTix feature on its mobile application.
The policy is already in place at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. NJ Transit has seen "positive results" since enacting it. By reducing cash transactions on buses, NJ Transit hopes to reduce delays associated with slow boarding and improve on-time performance.

Ticket vending machines will still accept cash in addition to debit and credit cards.
The station first opened in 1963, but closed in 2014 for the renovations. It was originally slated to reopen in 2015. Neal Buccino, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the terminal, said GWBBS Development Venture intends to hand over the completed bus station area to the Port Authority Monday so that it can be open for bus operations Tuesday.
