Cops: 'Drunk' Man Stopped From Jumping Off Of GWB

Paterson man has a history of suicide attempts, authorities said.

A drunk Paterson man was stopped from allegedly attempting to commit suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge Tuesday morning, police said.

The man, who has a history of suicide attempts, left his wife and 20-month-old son in the family minivan and headed for the south walkway when Port Authority police grabbed him, according to Cliffview Pilot.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, the website reported; the woman received a summons for driving with a suspended license and the minivan was impounded, according to the report.

Police found the man’s wife and son unharmed in the minivan, which was parked on the bridge. She had called shortly after 9 a.m. to report the attempt, according to northjersey.com.

His wife was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license, and the minivan was impounded, the report said.
