School District: Viewing, Funeral for Matthew Ramon Calderon is Tuesday

Viewing is Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Church of the Madonna; funeral mass is at 7 p.m. Those attending are encouraged "to wear something red in honor of Matthew."

The Fort Lee School District has released details of the funeral arrangements for Matthew Ramon Calderon, the Fort Lee High School sophomore who died of complications from juvenile diabetes over the weekend.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. at off Main Street, followed by a funeral mass at 7 p.m., Acting Superintendent Steven Engravalle said in a letter posted on the school district’s website Monday afternoon.

In the letter, Engravalle called Monday “a day filled with great emotion for all of us.”

“I am proud to report that throughout the school day our outstanding students, most clad in red, Matthew’s favorite color, were very respectful and focused on acknowledging the loss of Matthew, sharing memories about him and celebrating his life,” Engravalle said.

He also encouraged parents to accompany their children to the service if they want to attend and reminded parents and guardians that resources will continue to be made available to help both them and their children cope with the tragedy.

“Additionally, as a display of Fort Lee Pride and solidarity, you are encouraged to wear something red in honor of Matthew,” Engravalle said.
