Woman Grabs Friend's Steering Wheel During Argument, Crashes Car On GWB: Police

Johengny Tavares, 28, of Lake Hiawatha, was charged with assault by auto.

FORT LEE, NJ — A Morris County woman was charged with assault by auto after she caused her friend's car to crash on the George Washington Bridge by grabbing the steering wheel during an argument, police said.

Police officers responded at 11 p.m. Sunday to the scene of a crash involving a Chrysler sedan and a Toyota sedan on the bridge's upper level on the New Jersey side, said Joe Pentangelo, a Port Authority Police spokesman.

The passenger of the Chrysler, Johengny Tavares, 28, of Lake Hiawatha, was arguing with the driver, an acquaintance, grabbed the steering wheel and turned the vehicle into the Toyota, Pentangelo said.
