Today is bittersweet for me as I remember Super Storm Sandy..... I say this because it is also the anniversary of my business. It is so strange for even though I was living in an area that was not hit so hard, my childhood hometown was destroyed. I have friends and loved ones still displaced out of their homes and I know many people are still trying to recover.
My Mother and Father were big supporters of everything I did. Shortly after I opened my business.......I lost them........first my MOM, then a few months later, My DAD. Even though we hailed from Brooklyn, N.Y., my family made their home and living in Seaside. Seeing the devastation was something I'm sort of glad my parents didn't have to see. I still feels as if it were yesterday that I lost them. Some parts of me still feel like it's a dream when I see all the things that a storm could bring. Other parts of me see humanity reaching out to help those in need.
I remember sending a small care package to a town I had never even visited when I saw a much needed post on Facebook. I remember sitting on wet carpet as I helped my good friends and business associates pack up their home, that they are still not back into. I remember going to fundraisers and picking up food for some of my friends. It's quite bittersweet as I celebrate the continuation of my growing business on this day.............
I hope we can all reflect and find the good in any bad that comes our way. It's human nature. It's what we do. Upon all that, we must look to the positive, making things better than they were. Helping where we can and doing what we can and of course, moving forward to live our lives the best way that we can. We never know when life will be taken from us. It IS too short. I say, we should be continually thankful, and grateful no matter what the circumstances. We should always try to move forward with a positive light.....
