Gov. Phil Murphy Reports 1st Coronavirus Death In Atlantic County

An Egg Harbor Township man in his late 50s died from the virus.

ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — The novel coronavirus has killed one person in Atlantic County, Governor Phil Murphy reported Thursday. The patient was an Egg Harbor Township man in his late 50s, according to county officials.

“The patient had a history of underlying health conditions that put him at greater risk for complications from the coronavirus,” said Public Health Officer Patricia Diamond.

Officials reported 182 new deaths from the coronavirus Thursday around the state, raising New Jersey's total to 537.

Fifty-two people have tested positive in the county as of Thursday afternoon. County officials reported Tuesday that five people have been cleared as "recovered." Atlantic County has not released the number of positive cases by municipality.

"Most individuals with mild or moderate symptoms of the virus, such as fever and cough, are able to recover at home in about two or more weeks," the county statement said.
