Man Charged After Fatal Galloway Hit-And-Run: Police

The man was also charged with driving while impaired and driving without a license.

GALLOWAY, NJ — An Absecon man was charged after a fatal hit-and-run Monday morning in Galloway, police said. The three-car accident killed one person and left another with serious injuries, according to authorities.

Keneet Camacho was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, driving unlicensed, driving while impaired and several motor-vehicle offenses. Additional charges are pending.

The crash killed Janel Bembry, 48, of Galloway. Gail Schifris, 61, of Galloway, was taken to the hospital with "serious injuries," police said.

The accident took place at 7:58 a.m. Monday on Wrangleboro Road and Walden Way, police said. Camacho drove a 2016 Toyota Highlander south on Wrangleboro Road when the vehicle struck Bembry's car, according to authorities. The impact caused Bembry's vehicle to hit Schifris's car head-on in the northbound lane, police said.

Camacho fled the scene and continued south on Wrangleboro Road, but police quickly found the suspect on Great Creek Road, authorities said.

Officials took Bembry to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Division, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

Camacho, 38, was jailed at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Police closed part of Wrangleboro Road for about four hours to investigate the scene.

The crash was Galloway's second fatal accident in two days. Leonardo Finelli, of Galloway, died Sunday morning after his vehicle hit a tree.
