Ray's List Live: Brian Johnson

The owner of Herban Legend recites a poem and explains his inspiration.

As early as the Book of Psalms in The Bible, the art of poetry has been used as a tool to help people change their way of thinking. Most people believe poetry is just for impressing giggling school girls. While it is true that falling in love never goes out of style, poetry can be about anything that moves the writer in an emotional manner.

Enter Brian Johnson: a father, a son, a business owner who is a poet.

I caught up with Johnson at his store Herban Legend in Smithville and asked him to give us an exclusive performance of his poem “Coin.” A poem that is emotional, urgent and poetic.

Instead of creating a jazzy list of why you should now hit the play button, I will give you two.

Number one, the poem Coin should emotionally shove anyone troubled when young people die everyday because of a mix of generational poverty and street culture. Coin should educate those who don’t.

Reason Number Two: Coin is good poetry and should inspire further conversation.
