Woman Speeding, Intoxicated During Fatal Absecon Crash: Officials
A Pleasantville woman drove 106 mph during the 2018 crash that killed a Galloway resident, according to the Atlantic County prosecutor.

ABSECON, NJ β A Pleasantville woman faces charges for a 2018 crash that killed a Galloway resident, officials announced Thursday. Kaitlyn Hayes was driving under the influence of marijuana and driving more than 100 mph during the car accident that killed Suzana Kocick, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Hayes, 24, was charged Wednesday with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide in a school zone β both first-degree offenses.
The crash took place the night of Dec. 19, 2018, on Pitney Road around Connecticut Avenue in Absecon. Hayes's Ford Expedition crossed into the northbound lane and struck Kocick's vehicle head-on, according to the ACPO. Kocick, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hayes drove her SUV 106 mph 2 seconds before the crash and 104 mph on impact, the ACPO said. She tested positive for marijuana.
The accident took place within 1,000 feet of H. Ashton Marsh Elementary School.

βWe cannot emphasize enough the importance of refraining from driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol," said Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner. "Very simply, if you drive while impaired, it is more likely that someone will be injured or killed. The risk is too great to ignore."

Kocick, born in Brazil, moved to the United States after graduating with a degree in speech therapy, according to her obituary. She then started working at the newly opening Hard Rock, bringing her expertise in food and beverage leadership.
"She was a steward leader and was admired by all staff as well as patrons," her obituary says. "She was known in the community for having a empowering drive as an employee, and representing the kindest of hearts."
Kocick is survived by her family, including her spouse and two children.
