Argument At Gloucester Twp. Barbershop Led To Shooting: Police

A Blackwood man was fatally shot following an argument that began in a Gloucester Township barbershop on Dec. 3, according to authorities.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Last week’s fatal shooting at a Gloucester Township shopping complex began as an argument inside a barbershop, according to court documents.

Jose L. Rios, 19, of the Blackwood section of the township, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Mark Dodaro, of Blackwood, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The shooting occurred after the two men went into a barbershop together on Dec. 3, according to an affidavit of probable cause provided by the prosecutor’s office.

After a short time, Dodaro left the barbershop while Rios got his haircut, according to authorities. Dodaro later returned to the barbershop and got into an argument with Rios, according to police. It wasn't clear what the two were arguing about.

During the argument, Rios took a gun from his jacket, which was hanging from a chair in the back of the shop, according to surveillance footage obtained by detectives.

Rios then returned to the front of the shop and shot Dodaro in the leg, according to authorities. Dodaro then ran from the shop. Rios chased him down and shot him one more time before fleeing, according to authorities.

After reviewing the surveillance footage and interviewing three witnesses, detectives identified Rios as the shooter, according to authorities.

Rios was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force — Camden Division in Washington Township, on Dec. 4, according to authorities. Rios was taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility. Read more here: Blackwood Man Arrested In Gloucester Twp. Fatal Shooting: Police

Rios was detained pending trial following a hearing on Thursday, according to a spokesperson for the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
