Armed Man Shot By Police In South Jersey Has Died

A 38-year-old man who was shot by police during a domestic violence incident last week has died, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo said Monday morning.
Jose A. Fernandez-Ventura, of Camden, died as a result of his injuries on Sunday night, Jan. 15, at Cooper Medical Center, Colalillo said.
Fernandez-Ventura had been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Camden County Police responded to a home on the 2700 block of Federal Street in Camden Wednesday morning in response to a 911 call for domestic violence and a man armed with a gun.
When they arrived, they discovered Fernandez-Ventura was in possession of a gun and was approaching the woman, who had an 8-month-old baby in her lap, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Police say they shot him as he was approaching the woman, and that he then fired at her and the infant at close range.
The woman was also hospitalized at Cooper University Hospital. No further details were given on her condition Monday morning.
The baby wasn’t hurt in the shooting, and the prosecutor’s office isn’t providing any further information concerning the infant.
