College Nurse Killed, 3 Injured In South Jersey Crash

PILESGROVE, NJ — A school nurse was killed and three other people were hurt in a crash Monday morning in Salem County, officials said.

One of the drivers — Theresa Covello, 65, of Mullica Hill — died in the two-vehicle crash, according to State Police.

Dr. Covello worked at Salem Community College for the past five years, serving as the chief nursing officer. SCC, a two-year college in Salem County, is gathering Tuesday afternoon to honor her memory.

The crash happened at 10:10 a.m. Monday in Pilesgrove.

Covello was driving eastbound on Route 660 and ran a stop sign at the intersection with Route 605, said Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a State Police spokesperson.

A Honda Accord was moving southbound on Route 605 when it struck Covello's vehicle, which made her vehicle overturn, Lebron said.

A passenger in the Accord was seriously injured, Lebron said. But State Police had no word on their condition.

The Accord driver and another passenger in the vehicle had minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
