Gloucester Township Shopping Center Evacuated After Bomb Threat
Bomb-sniffing dogs did not turn up any explosive devices after a Shoprite store employee was told the building was going to blow up.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A bomb threat called into a Gloucester Township Shoprite store Thursday evening led police to evacuate a local shopping plaza before authorities found no sign of explosive materials, police said Friday.
Police were called to the store on Chews Landing Road just before 5:30 p.m. after a store employee received word over the phone that the building was going to blow up, Gloucester Township Police said.
Officers evacuated the store and then did the same at surrounding businesses in the Market Place Shopping Center, which was safely and completely evacuated within a short time, police said. The Camden County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad also investigated the scene along with bomb-sniffing dogs, which conducted searches of the businesses. No explosive materials were found at the location during the search, police said.
